But Slipper Day, taking place on 30 May, is about more than just cosy footwear. It’s a day dedicated to hope, courage, and the dreams of children fighting life-threatening illnesses.
At City Property, we’re proud to walk this journey alongside the Reach for a Dream Foundation, an organisation that brings joy and hope to young fighters by turning their biggest dreams into reality. Because when a child dares to dream, even in the face of unimaginable challenges, something powerful happens — entire communities are uplifted by their courage.
More than just slippers
The slippers may be symbolic, but the message is profound. Many of these children spend their days in slippers — not by choice, but because of long hospital stays, painful treatments, and physical limitations. So, when we put on our slippers for a day, we walk in solidarity with them.
But more importantly, we act. Every Slipper Day sticker purchased goes directly towards helping Reach for a Dream< continue their incredible work. Every sticker becomes a promise — a promise that their dreams matter.
Our commitment to the Dreamers
As part of our CityCare social responsibility programme, we’ve partnered with Reach for a Dream to make a difference where it matters most — in the lives of young dreamers. This year alone, we’ve committed to making 33 dreams come true. Here’s a glimpse of what we’ve achieved so far:
- Three individual dreams, including:
- A musical instrument for a partially blind child with a love for music.
- A Barbie Dreamhouse for a little girl who can’t walk.
- A PlayStation for a child living with congenital heart disease.
- Three room makeovers to create healing, happy spaces for children.
- A courage session, where 10 children enjoyed a fun-filled escape room adventure.
- A hope project, where 15 children created mood boards filled with their dreams and future goals.
- A laughter session that brought smiles to the faces of 20 hospitalised children.
Each dream, each moment, is a reminder that they are not alone — and that their dreams, no matter how big or small, are valid.
A personal reflection
For Bianca Rademeyer, a passionate member of the CityCare team, the experience was nothing short of life-changing. After attending a mood board art session, she took something home that was more than just a memory.
“The programme is designed to motivate the children, but instead, the mood board — which now has a special place in my office — motivates me. When I face a tough day, I think of how much harder they’re fighting. It inspires me to appreciate the little things and reminds me how much we have to be thankful for.” – Bianca Rademeyer
