Staff heeded the call as it speaks to our DNA – making a difference on a daily basis. We are do-ers who excel at various levels of property management and do-ers who build communities. Even our company shirts have hands on it, showing how we make a difference through various social initiatives.
To do, is to use your hands, and to do something for someone else without expecting something in return is the essence of #MandelaDay.
This year we packed over 116 000 meals that will feed 504 children five meals a day for a whole year.
The highly nutritious meals, comprising of rice, soya, dehydrated vegetable mix and a fortification minerals and vitamins, specifically formulated to combat malnutrition will be distributed via the Rise Against Hunger Africa to early childhood centres (ECDs) in the Gauteng area.
Hunger in South Africa is a stark reality. Over 3.1 million children experience chronic hunger on a daily basis, which has a devastating effect on brain development.
We have been packing meals with Rise Against Hunger for eight years as part of our Mandela Day initiative and we agree with their motto that education and nutrition go hand-in-hand. Children are an important part of the community. As we see children as part of our future, we want to make a significant difference in their lives.
Our annual Rise Against Hunger CSI event is a favourite amongst staff, and some packed more than one shift of #67minutes to reach our target. It was heart-warming to see 766 hands packing meals with enthusiasm and respect, contributing positively to children who need it most.
