Brown Street is notorious for being an area of ill repute. Illegal trade, drugs, prostitution, street kids, the homeless and destitute all find a home in Brown Street. The clean-up of Brown Street is another maiden project of the #ChangeOurCityForGoodCampaign.
In endeavouring to keep this street clean and well lit, any persons partaking in illicit activities will feel less comfortable to do so as there are fewer inconspicuous places to conduct these activities, most notably at night, where they were previously able to hide in the “shadows” as it were.
The absence of dustbins has resulted in an uncontrolled rubbish problem.
City Property has arranged for a skip in the area and a daily clean-up is done.
The municipal street lighting is insufficient or out of order.
City Property has installed floodlights on the buildings it manages to ensure the area is lit after dark.
City Property realises the integral part that the informal traders in the Brown Street area play in reforming the city. We have a close working relationship with the Tshwane Barekisi Forum for informal traders to work together for a better city.Gallery
